Standard Crates
|
Standard crates can be oriented in multiple ways depending on the type of artwork being packed. Our crates are designed to be front loading, top loading, end loading, and explodable if necessary. We build crates to be weight bearing and can be reinforced depending on the weight and size of the artwork. |
Museum Crates
Our museum crates, like standard crates are built from 1/2" maple plywood, with 3/4" plywood battens and corner battens, with a contiguous top surface to avoid pooling of water. The edges are rounded over to avoid splintering, and we add metal handles to the exterior for lifting. Museum crates are also equipped with riding battens for mobility and access to pallet jacks. The interior of museum crates are always lined with Tyvek to act as a vapor barrier and a minimum of 2" open cell polyurethane foam for both shock absorption and thermal insulation. Museum crates have lids that are fastened with plate and bolt fasteners, and are sealed with neoprene gasket between the crate wall and the lid. Finally, our museum crates' exteriors are either painted or coated with polyurethane for additional water proofing. |
Economy Crates
When cost effectiveness is a priority, we offer economy crates, which cuts down on the amount of material used to enclose the artwork. While the back and lid of the crate are constructed from 1/2" maple plywood, the frame of the crate is made with 3/4" maple plywood for added structural support. The edges of our economy crates are rounded over to avoid splintering, and again are equipped with riding battens and metal handles. The interior of our economy crates are blocked with Ethafoam, and our lids are fastened with our standard wafer head screws. |
Standard Travel Frames
We build travel frames for added protection of the art both for local and national transportation. Most often, our travel frames go hand-in-hand with a custom built crate that houses the travel frame. Our standard travel frames are made with 3/4" maple plywood. Travel frames consist of a framed flat continuous backing with middle slats. The frame's joints are screwed and glued with waterproof adhesive. Like our crates, we equip our travel frames with metal handles on the exterior of the frame. All of our travel frames' edges and corners are rounded over to avoid splintering. The interior of our travel frames typically include riser blocks in the corners and strategic positions within the frame for easy handling of the artwork. We include Oz clip mounting brackets and hardware upon request. Individual slats are used to close the face of the travel frame, which are later fastened with wafer head screws. |

Coroplast Travel Frame
Coroplast travel frames are used for extra care and protection for the artwork. A Coroplast travel frame, like our other travel frames, is constructed from 3/4" maple plywood, and its joints are screwed and glued with waterproof adhesive. Our coroplast travel frames are built with a flat framed back and lid, and we use corrugated plastic to cover the negative space between middle slats of the backing or lid. We do this to add a light weight barrier of added protection and added rigidity of the frame. The edges of the frame are rounded over and the frame is equipped with metal handle on the exterior for lifting. The interior of the frame is blocked with riser blocks for easy handling of the artwork and Oz clip brackets and hardware are included upon request. |
Pedestals
Our pedestals are made at various sizes and can be built to support large and heavy artwork. We typically build our standard pedestals out of 1/2" or 3/4" ultra light MDF for a smooth surface. All joints are glued with water proof adhesive, and are made with mitered edges for a clean exterior. We line the interior corners of our pedestals with additional MDF strips for reinforcement. If needed for heavier artwork, our pedestals are equipped with an added interior MDF brace(s). We make pedestals based on the dimensions of the work in situ on the pedestal or based on the clients specific parameters. We also design pedestals with electrical or storage in mind if requested by the client. Once our pedestals are constructed, we prime and paint the exteriors, and then encase them with plastic and cardboard to protect them while in transportation. Upon request, our pedestals can have an integrated reveal/shadow gap at the base or adjustable leveling feet. |
Shelves
Workshop Fine Art also makes a variety of different custom wall display shelves. These can have exposed braces, come in a floating shelf format or have a tapered underside in a wall wedge form. We can match the color you want and will always make the most stable and secure exhibition surfaces needed for an array of different weighted objects.
